De La Soul chopped it up with VladTV about the group was formed, being labeled “hippies” in Hip Hop while coexisting with other rap acts that was out at the time, and to later become apart of the “Native Tongue” movement.
De La Soul brought a new sound to Hip Hop at the height of the gangsta rap emergence. Still, existing with groups like N.W.A wasn’t difficult at the time, the trio says.
