2021 looks to go down in history as the year of the NFT as more and more influencers and personalities get in on the boom to provide their audiences with limited edition art, music, once-in-a-lifetime experiences and most importantly, an opportunity to invest in a new asset class. The exciting new trend and business practice has been adopted by some of the biggest artists in the game including two new respective collections from rap heavyweights, Eminem and A$AP Rocky.
The charismatic A$AP Mob frontman teamed up with a few of his AWGE creative agency artists to release ROCKY GATEWAY, a 7 piece NFT collection on Niftygateway. Rocky has already established his name as a maverick in the fashion and art world so this feels like only an extension of his continued prolific prowess. Purchasers were entered into an auction including an in-person studio session with Rocky as well as a test dummy mask and even one of three rally-cars used on his 2019 “INJURED GENERATION” tour.
Also on Niftygateway, the Rap God himself, Eminem, launched Shady Con, a digital festival with a number of NFT drops inspired by comic books and action figures from his youth, including exclusive Em produced beats. Two of the limited edition drops quickly sold out as fans are aware of Eminems reclusive nature and did not miss the opportunity to be a part of something that may truly not happen again. The artwork was produced by artist D.O.M. and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Marshall Mathers Foundation.
An NFT (non-fungible token) is a unit of data stored on a blockchain that certifies a digital asset to be unique and un-interchangeable. NFT’s can be used to represent items such as photos, videos, audio and other types of digital files as well as real life items and are not just for the ultra-famous. Artists and entrepreneurs of all levels of success are leveraging a bit of research into another lucrative avenue of income.
The unique crypto assets have been around since at least 2012 and have no sign of disappearing as the creativity of offerings get more and more diverse. As the marathon continues, NFT creation definitely seems a viable way into the future of entrepreneurship and creatives are blazing trails daily and some of those trails are leading to financial security.
