J. Cole’s Newest Group Earthgang Shuts Down LA At The Novo Arena

If you’re a fan of good music, you’re a fan of Earthgang. Signed to Dreamville, the musical duo consists of Atlanta natives Olu and WowGr8, otherwise known as Johnny Venus and Doctor Dut respectively. Of course, anyone who J. Cole signs to his imprint must come equipped with hard-hitting bars and storytelling in their lyrics… and Earthgang never fails to disappoint.

On Friday, April 29th, Earthgang took over The Novo in downtown Los Angeles on their Biodeghettable Tour, putting on a show for the books for their dedicated fans. As fans waiting patiently for them to grace the stage, Johnny Venus popped out in a bright green flower-printed shirt to pair with his white floral pants. Doctor Dut on the other hand sported a dark navy vest and a safari hat.

Earthgang kicked off the show with their song “Meditate,” before bringing out labelmate JID to perform their collaborative single “WATERBOYZ,” which also features J. Cole. While the idea was farfetched, concert-goers could only dream that Cole would pop out for an appearance. But what didn’t go unnoticed was the live band on stage, with a guitarist, drummer, and keyboardist on stage bringing all the records to life.

Next was “Amen” featuring Musiq Soulchild, as they crooned “get down on your knees for me!” The group’s ability to switch from singing to rapping is effortless, and their diverse sound is much appreciated. They also took time to speak to the crowd directly, asking who listened to their most recent project Ghetto Gods. With most songs made during the pandemic, Earthgang also reminded everyone that no matter where you’re from or what you’re going through, always find the light and goodness inside your heart. That’s the only thing that matters!

“All Eyes On Me,” “Lie To Me,” and “American Horror Story” were next, also from their Ghetto Gods project. Next, they performed cuts off their 2019 Mirrorland album, performing fan favorites “Top Down” and “Proud Of U.” They also did “Up,” which did insane numbers on COLORS.

Of course, they couldn’t finish the set without performing their bangers from Revenge of the Dreamers 3, which deemed them their first Grammy nomination. Johnny took the time to explain the wild times they were going through during this period of time, with him losing his father and Doctor Dut becoming a father. But as long as you believe in yourself, you can do anything you set your mind to!

Next was their 420 friendly record “Smoke Sum,” before encouraging everyone inside the venue to manifest nothing but greatness. Soon, JID would return to the stage with Dreamville artist Bas to perform “Down Bad.”  The energy was immaculate, and we encourage everyone to go check out an Earthgang soon!
