While DETROIT won’t be in theaters for a few weeks, it has all the makings of a very powerful and extremely timely film. Just watch trailer below to understand that the topic is as relevant today as it was 50 years ago.
From Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow of “Hurt Locker” and Zero Dark Thirty,” the film will have an added layer of authenticity thanks to a soundtrack from Motown Records, which will include original classics from the ‘Motown Sound’ of the 60s as well as a new song from The Roots, “It Ain’t Fair (feat. Bilal).”
The Roots’ drummer and producer Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson says the song is about embodying the era and connecting the issues of the Civil Rights generations to our current status quo.
“It’s been fifty years since the events of this film, but the powerful images I saw on the screen reminded me that we’re still going through the same things now,” Questlove said. “That knowledge produces anger, but not despair: music has the power to express both anguish and hope.”
