Kendrick Lamar First Week Sales “To Pimp A Butterfly” Puts Album #1 On Billboard

The numbers are in, and Kendrick Lamar officially has his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 charts. Even with a few hiccups in the release of Kendrick’s To Pimp a Butterfly, the album still had an impressive first week of sales, with 324,000 actual albums sold, and 363,000 if you include streams.

This was easily the highest selling album of the week, and obviously Kendrick’s biggest first week of his career. In 2012, Kendrick debuted at No. 2 on the charts with good kid, m.A.A.d. city selling 242,000 copies in the first week of release. 2015 is already off to a great start in terms of hip-hop sales, with Kendrick becoming the third rapper to hit the No. 1 spot this year, with Drake and Big Sean being the others. Kendrick’s To Pimp a Butterfly album can be purchased on iTunes here.
