Not very many emcees are capable of serving justice over the production of Madlib, possibly one of the greatest hip hop producers of our generation. Freddie Gibbs has proven to be up for the challenge when he collaborated with Madlib in 2014 with “Pinata”. “Pinata” was a seventeen track project that displayed a melodic & artistic assembly of sound. Gibbs has shown the ability to manipulate his flow and lyricism in a way that really compliments Madlib beats. Those of us who were fans of “Pinata” could not have been more excited for the announcement of their next collab.
In a recent interview at the “Red Bull Music Academy” earlier this month, Madlib stated that he’s been working with Freddie Gibbs lately and has another project coming soon. Gibbs also tweeted recently “#Bandana” which we assume will be the title of the upcoming project. Madlib also he admitted during his interview that many of the beats that will be featured on “Bandana” were also considered for Kanye West’s latest album Life of Pablo. Although Kanye ultimately only chose one beat, which we now know as “No More Parties in LA”. No release date has been set yet, but we definitely can expect it sometime this year.
